Fitting a Gas Cooker

In a home or property, having a cooker is essential. These appliances are used daily and can last a long time if they are maintained properly.

The process of gas cooker fitting is very important because the cooker is being supplied gas from the mains and sloppy work can result in gas leaks, fires and explosions.

Therefore, finding a gas cooker fitting service, like KS Gas, that is Gas Safe Registered will be your best bet.

Fitting Free Standing Cookers

Before thinking about replacing your gas cooker or gas hob, you will need to think about having it safely disconnected from the gas supply.

Fitting a free standing cooker is a relatively easy job for a gas fitter if the pipework is already there. However always make sure you have someone who is gas safe registered to do the work as they can check properly for:

  • Gas leaks
  • Operation of safety devices.
  • Ventilation.
  • Carbon monoxide levels.

As They Are A Flueless Appliance It Is Very Important These Thing Are Done Right.

Once you have had your appliance disconnected and disposed of properly, you can start with the installation of the replacement gas cooker.

When your gas cooker is being installed, it will be turned off from the mains gas supply. This ensures that no leaks are created while your cooker is being installed. The Gas Safe engineer will then use a flexible hose pipe to connect the gas cooker to the mains supply.

When they are sure that the gas cooker has successfully been connected to the supply, they will turn the gas supply back on and test your new cooker to make sure that it is running safely and efficiently.

We also offer a home move service where disconnect and cap one end, move the cooker to your new address, reconnect and test.

Preparation for Gas Installations

Having the gas appliance installed doesn’t require much work from the homeowner. You should leave the installation process to the qualified engineer. However, there are some things you can consider and prepare for so that the engineer can get straight to work without too much disruption to your property.

Clear The Hot Zone – The hot zone is the area directly above the cooker or hob. Before the engineer installs the new cooker, make sure this area is free from flammable objects including wallpaper, wood, plug sockets, wiring or an overhanging boiler. If the hot zone is not clear it will delay the installation.

Electricity Rating – The appliance’s amp rating, especially if you are upgrading to a newer model, will be considerably different in terms of the power needed. Before the installation or purchase of the cooker, you should check to see if the product specifications suit your kitchen’s electrical set-up.

Ventilation – The Gas Safety Regulations require adequate ventilation in the room where the gas fuel appliance is installed. If you don’t have a window or door to the outdoors from your kitchen, then you should consider getting an electric cooker instead.

It is important to remember that is very dangerous having your cooker, hob or oven installed by an engineer that is not Gas Safe Registered. At KS all out engineers are Gas Safe Registered and that, combined with our very affordable prices, means that you don’t need to look any further for your gas cooker installations.
